Blogging A to Z: Luna Lovegood

Welcome to the A to Z blogging challenge! All month long we'll be creating posts for each letter of the alphabet according to a theme. Click here to see the list of participating blogs.

My theme is Memorable Characters featuring characters from books, movies, and TV.

Luna Lovegood

From: Harry Potter series

Known For: acting spaced out, Nargle warnings

Ah, Luna. She's one of those side characters who turned out to have a much greater role later in the series. Luna is beloved by many fans, with a whole slew of fanfic. Luna is first revealed as a spacey drifter, who later is revealed to have lost her mother at a young age. She and her father, who write a tabloid-type bulletin for the magical world, are among the few who take Harry's side initially when Voldemort is rumored to have returned from the dead. Luna is most likely a fan favorite because she's an outsider, she's bullied, and yet she forges ahead with little concern for her reputation. She's shown to be strong against opposition, especially seen in the later books/films with Dumbledore's army and assisting with finding the last Horcrux needed to defeat Voldemort.

Which Harry Potter series character is your favorite?

  1. I've always liked Luna, because she's different without being rebellious, and indifferent to criticism without being hostile. She is a very generous and loyal friend to those who give her the opportunity to befriend them. I would love to say I would have counted her as a friend when I was a teen, though I might be overestimating my maturity to think I wouldn't have mocked her with everyone else. However, she's the kind of friend I hope my kids are drawn to. (A good parent always wants their children to be better than they were.)

My favorite Potter character? I think either Luna or Lupin. How appropriate for "L" day! :)

    1. Luna really came into her own at the end of the series. I grew to like her more as she was further developed from weirdo to heroine. :)

  2. I love that Luna doesn't care what anyone thinks about her!
I don't think I could pick a favourite HP character although I love the Weasley twins.

  3. There is not a HP character I don't love or at least love to hate. This makes me want to break the books out again.

  4. I always liked Hermione, but I only read the first three books, so I'm not sure my opinion counts!

  5. She is one of my favorite characters from the series. Someone you don't expect too much from, and then continually comes through. I love Luna. But Neville is still my favorite.

  6. I have always felt that Neville was incredibly brave. He could have stood back and watched, but didn't.

    1. Luna and Neville really transformed over the series. I like how they emerged from nerdy/weird background characters to having substantial roles later on.

  7. OMGosh! LUV Luna! I remember when she first pop onto the screen, I thought "Hmm... what is JK going to do with her." Just adore her innocence and veracity, yet a strength that bubbles from beneath. Thanks so much for dropping by Writer's Alley and leaving your splat. I love that. Following you here, now, and hopping over to Twitter, too ...

  9. Apart from the 3 main characters, my favourite would have to be Neville. And Dobby .... can I count him? I also have a soft spot for Mad Eye Moody!

  10. I love this choice, and it's one I would not have thought of. As Brandon Ax said, I love them all, or love/hate them :)
