Blogging A to Z: Xander Harris

Welcome to the A to Z blogging challenge! All month long we'll be creating posts for each letter of the alphabet according to a theme. Click here to see the list of participating blogs.

My theme is Memorable Characters featuring characters from books, movies, and TV.

Xander Harris

From: Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Known For: comebacks, loyalty

Xander starts out as a loveable dork, but by the end of the series, he's earned his badge as a evil-distroying Scooby. One of the great themes in Buffy is how the chosen slayer, Buffy, Buffy is just as influenced by her normal friends as they are by her power. Xander struggles against his sidekick status in several story arcs throughout the series. I love it when a show can question a trope (like the hero and her buddies) and do something new with it. Xander doesn't go to college with Buffy and Willow, but moves to his parent's basement and gets a job, living as a "townie." He's always to the left of convention, and this within a group that slays vampires. One of my favorite episodes is when Xander is split into two Xanders, the other played by the actor's real life twin. Also, who doesn't love Xander? He gets so many good lines.

Are you a Buffy fan? If not, what are you waiting for!

  1. I've seen the first three series of Buffy. I should probably watch more, but... you know... so much to watch, so little time. Xander was a fun and interesting character. :)

  2. I don't know if I've ever seen an entire episode of Buffy, though I've seen parts of a few episodes. From what I've heard, the name Xander got so trendy/popular because of this character.

  3. Sadly, I am one of those people who didn't watch this show. I can't really think of a reason why I didn't, other than I just didn't. Maybe I should see if I can catch back episodes online somewhere. :)

  4. I love the ep when he's split into two, especially near the end when he/they are laughing at what the other one said. So funny.

  5. I have to say I've never watched a single show, and not because it didn't interest me, but simply because I never thought about it. I may have to change that one of these days by finding re-runs.

  6. I didn't watch Buffy at all until a couple years ago when the urge to devour am entire series hit me and I'd already been through Angel. The arc of Xander's character was quite enjoyable and I appreciated that he had some depth and was a solid character on his own.

  7. I'm a huge fan of Buffy, it's one of my favourite shows. I'm re-watching it at the minute, I'm on season 6 (so close to Once More With Feeling!)
    Xander rocks :)
