Blogging A to Z: A is for Avatar Aang

Today launches the A to Z blogging challenge! All month long we'll be creating posts for each letter of the alphabet according to a theme. Click here to see the list of participating blogs.

My theme is Memorable Characters featuring characters from books, movies, and TV.

Avatar Aang

From: Avatar: The Last Airbender

Known For: bending the elements, wisecracks

This is a great gateway series to anime, combining American and Japanese styles of animation, while also blending in themes of Chinese mythology. It may have aired on Nickelodeon, but it's not just a kids show! Aang is able to control all four nature elements. He's a loveable goof, but his abilities make him the one capable of ending war against the nations. Together with his friends, they work to save and rebuild the nations. The live action movie may have sucked, but the animated series is full of great storytelling, and gorgeous artistic moments.

Have you seen this series? If not, what is your favorite cartoon series?

  1. My kids liked that show, but all I remember about it is that the movie was horrible. Not the fault of the show at all but, then, I never watched the cartoon.

    1. The movie should not be considered part of this universe. It's not even so-bad-it's-funny, it's just BAD.

  2. This show is actually really good. I agree though, the movie was horrible.

  3. I'm not familiar with this show. I'm much more into the classic cartoon series, though I also love the modern cartoon series The Boondocks.

  5. My son loved this series when he was a bit younger! Great choice. Also, I took him to the movie when it was released. It wasn't great, but there was some really pretty imagery going on in it!

  6. I haven't seen the whole series, but the rest of my family (my wife included) have. They all enjoyed it, and from what I've seen, I understand why. It's a good story with a very definite arc, and some interesting twists. I agree that it's not just for kids.

  14. I LOVED THIS POST. I totally agree with you! My favourite anime would have to be Golden Time/Another/Free/Mahou Sensou/Nisekoi/Attack on Titan/Sword Art Online etc etc. There's just too many good ones out these days! I'm so excited for the new spring anime that are coming out in the next week or so.

It would mean so much to me if you could visit my blog, www.thatgirlybookworm.blogspot.ca

    1. Will do! My husband watches a lot of anime so I've seen a few of those (in parts) by default. Attack on Titan is his favorite.

  15. I've never seen this one. I have a hard time getting into animated shows. I don't know why. I prefer the simpler, old-style animation from my childhood, although I don't watch those anymore either. It's a great choice though, based on your description. :)
