Welcome to the A to Z blogging challenge! All month long we'll be creating posts for each letter of the alphabet according to a theme. Click here to see the list of participating blogs.
My theme is Memorable Characters featuring characters from books, movies, and TV.
Boyd Crowder
From: Justified
Known for: swindling, eloquent speech, that hair
Justified is a current show on the FX network. Crowder is a villain from the start of the series, and (debateably) still remains one through the series. Crowder looks out for himself via his own set of morals within the criminal industry. His primary nemesis is Raylan Givens, Justified's main character, but throughout the show he pretty much ticks off everybody you can name. I dare you not to root for this bad boy at some point if you watch it.
Who's your favorite hate-to-love villain?

Oooh....I think maybe the Darkling from the Grisha trilogy....

Visiting on day 3 of the #atozchallenge with all my fellow writers. I appreciate all the hard work it takes to participate. I hope you make many new blogging friends.
ReplyDeleteOh, I think I'll go with Frank Underwood. He is grey all over :)
ReplyDeleteHuh. Never seen that one. When it comes to TV, my favorite love-to-hate villain is Damon Salvatore. I don't know that I've ever seen that role so well played. =)
ReplyDeleteClearly I don't watch enough TV, because I can't really think of a love-to-hate villain in a current series. In general, I think Severus Snape is a great "villain" because you spend most of the Harry Potter series seeing him as an impediment to Harry's success... and yet all along, it transpires they were working toward the same goal. But that didn't make Snape a good guy. He seriously disliked Harry, and bore a lot of grudges that caused Harry serious grief. The genius of Snape's villainy, though, is in the fact that it wasn't without reason. You could see his point of view.
ReplyDeleteSnape is a great example! He was very nuanced throughout the series which I really liked.
DeleteI have wanted to watch this show I keep seeing the season at the store. I guess I should go ahead and grab it.

Justified is probably my favorite TV series ever. I love Boyd's and Raylan's relationship. Walton Goggins is tremendous in that role. I hate that it's also been cancelled.
ReplyDeleteThe good news is the showrunners themselves set an end date, so they mapped out next season as their final. So it's less like they are getting cancelled, but hanging up the hat on their terms. The best case scenario if you ask me, like Breaking Bad and Lost.
DeleteNever watched the show, but I may have to now. Thanks for dropping my blog! And good luck on the Challenge.
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of this show, but it sounds fascinating! Great choice :)

Oh, Boyd. Even though he's a nasty piece of work, you're right about sometimes rooting for him. My husband is a huge fan of the show. I watched all of it in the beginning, and then once the kidlet came along, I've caught bits and pieces.
ReplyDeleteI've never seen that show, but wasn't he on The Shield, too? If it's who I'm thinking, he was all the things you just described for Justified, on The Shield. Hmmm...must be a character actor?? ;-) Good post, Have fun with the A to Z ! ;-)
ReplyDeleteHe was on The Wire, which I have not seen (I get those two shows confused).
DeleteOoh I wanted to watch this a while ago and then I forgot about it o_0 Thanks for the reminder, I'm curious again :D
ReplyDeleteI've been meaning to get into Justified for aaages, just been bogged down by Walking Dead! Crowder seems like my kinda bad boy, though, so I might have to bump it up the list a little ;) My favourite love-to-hate villain is definitely Loki, but a close runner-up would be Walter White from Breaking Bad, though I supposed his villainy is a point-of-view ;)
ReplyDeleteWalter White is a really good one. I was so conflicted watching Breaking Bad because Walt is a criminal, despite any good intentions. And his evolvement over the series is fascinating.
DeleteI love Boyd. He is so off the rails this season with everything going wrong. He's a great character and so much smarter than any one gives him credit for.
ReplyDeleteI don't actually watch this show... yet! I've been meaning to binge-watch it at some point, but just haven't had the time yet. :)
