Welcome to the A to Z blogging challenge! All month long we'll be creating posts for each letter of the alphabet according to a theme. Click here to see the list of participating blogs.
My theme is Memorable Characters featuring characters from books, movies, and TV.
Sabrina Fairchild
From: Sabrina Fair (play), adapted for film in 1954 and 1995 as Sabrina
Known For: infatuation, witticisms
I wrote a Young Adult novel inspired by the Sabrina story, so the character is fresh in my mind. Audrey may be the more beloved Sabrina, as she was perfect for the role (and the fashion was amazing), though overall, I like the '90s version with Julia Ormond and Harrison Ford better. For one, some of the dated storytelling is revamped (no suicide attempt played for laughs--seriously, it's disturbing) and a little more focus on Sabrina figuring herself out while she's away in Paris. The love story is a lot of fun. Sabrina, a chauffeur's daughter living on the estate of a rich family, swoons over charmer David, but eventually falls for his crumudgeony brother Linus. The love story is very character driven, with each character changing somewhat toward the end. I also like that the '90s version captures a bit of the older film's charm.
Have you seen Sabrina? Which film version is your favorite?

Our posts sort of coordinate:) I agree with you I prefer thr later version because of the portraying of the suicide attempt but I am so in love with the old movies.

Love 'em both! (but prefer the more recent remake). I'm visiting briefly from A-Z (prompted by your comment on my blog, storycrossings.com - thanks!), and your theme is so fun! I'm super-short on time today (and for the next 3 days), but I plan to return to browse more of your posts - hopefully this weekend! Happy Writing!
ReplyDeleteI've seen both versions. I love Audrey, but I agree that the later version is better.

I love Audrey Hepburn, one of the classiest stars to grace the big screen. But I do prefer the later version of the movie.
ReplyDeleteLove love this movie... The later version! I've seen it several times but only seen the first one once. Of course, after watching the later one with Harrison, Humphrey Bogart didn't feel right. Good post!
ReplyDeleteAh what nostalgia, these black and whites have brought me much laughter and tears over the years.
ReplyDeleteHi Steph! I've never seen either film, but I did see this on stage years ago, when my History teacher was playing the part of Sabrina! I'd forgotten about it until your blog post reminded me of it!
ReplyDeleteI have only seen the 1 version, because my sister loves it. Hepburn was a good actress for it and the story was interesting.

Have to go with the earlier version, although I do like Harrison Ford. A lot. ;-)
ReplyDeleteI guess by default, the 90s version is my favorite since it's the only one I've seen. It's a good movie--I've seen it a few times, and it never fails to entertain. We have the original Hepburn movie, I just haven't got around to watching it yet. I probably should so I can make a fair comparison.
ReplyDeleteHow can I not love this character. Great theme. This must be so much fun for you as well as the readers.
ReplyDeleteI really like the 1990's version of Sabrina... but I'm curious to hear about your story based off of it?
ReplyDeleteI have not seen this movie, but it sounds very interesting.
ReplyDeleteI'm not familiar with this -- thank you for sharing.

haven't seen it, but sounds great :D
ReplyDeleteI loved the Audrey Hepburn version mainly because of her. You're right, the fashions are killer! But I don't remember the suicide scene. I'd like to see the Harrison Ford version again.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I ever saw the original, but I do remember the one with Harrison Ford. Greg Kinnear was in that one, too, wasn't he? Great blog post. I like the overall design of your blog, too. Good luck with the rest of the challenge!
ReplyDeleteI think the first version was the best by far and Humphrey Bogart was just perfect as Linus.
