My theme is Memorable Characters featuring characters from books, movies, and TV.

Katniss Everdeen

From: The Hunger Games

Known For: defending the lives of others, archery

Anytime casting news comes out for a film series based on a beloved book series, nobody likes the choices. And yet now, can you imagine anyone other than Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss? In the books, the end of the very first chapter Katniss volunteers as tribute in place of her sister, who was to be slated for the brutal fight-to-the-death games in the district's capital. Katniss is a survivalist, which is shown from the start when she hunts (illegally) to keep her mother and sister fed. She is a fighter, but interestingly is shown as compassionate when it comes to other contestants in the games. Her flaw is that sometimes she can overlook the present for the sake of the end result; the struggle she has with her compassion vs. her need to survive is what makes her, and the series, so compelling.

Are you a Hunger Games fan?

  1. Jennifer Lawrence makes the perfect Katniss, absolutely. Such a great character choice for K :)

  2. Ah, the legend of J-Law... taking three days to decide if she wanted to accept the role. So glad she did. Great choice!

  3. I'm definitely a Hunger Games fan. And Katniss. She's a good role model for kids I think.

  4. She is responsible for my daughter wanting to learn archery.

  5. I enjoyed the first book, but I think the series went downhill progressively over the next two novels. And while Jennifer Lawrence was a good Katniss, the book Katniss will always be the best. :)

  6. I love JLaw. She makes an excellent Katniss. The character herself kicks serious butt but she's not my fave character in general.

  7. I love Katniss. I read all three books after watching the first movie and it quickly became my favourite trilogy :) I think Jennifer Lawrence make a perfect Katniss.

  8. I actually haven't read the books or seen the movie yet. I've been meaning to do that, but I need to find the time. :)
