Blogging A to Z: Rogue

Welcome to the A to Z blogging challenge! All month long we'll be creating posts for each letter of the alphabet according to a theme. Click here to see the list of participating blogs.

My theme is Memorable Characters featuring characters from books, movies, and TV.

Rogue

From: The X-Men franchise

Known For: the ability to absorb other mutant's powers (and some physical attributes)

Rogue has a pretty rich story in Marvel's comic universe, which upon reading about her further, makes me want to check out the Captain Marvel line for her involvement with Ms. Marvel's powers (I also saw current Captain Marvel writer Kelly Sue Deconnick in a panel at Portland's Comic Con last year which piqued my interest).

I imagine most people are familiar with Rogue through Anna Paquin's portrayal in the X-Men movies, where Rogue runs away after unintentionally hurting people, and joins up with Wolverine. Magneto tries to use Rogue for her power-stealing abilities, which is a source of conflict through the series. Anytime good vs. evil is featured, it's cool to see characters who struggle with how to use their power, and when they dissect perceived good and evil. Ultimately, Rogue must decide if she wants to be cured of her mutant powers, where she can freely touch others without harm.

Are you familiar with the X-Men universe? Who is your favorite character?

  1. I've seen the first movie (I'm not even sure if there is more than one, haha). I liked Rogue. I didn't have a favorite.

  2. Thanks for stopping by my blog today! I feel sorry for Rogue because she can't touch people. The poor girl!

  3. Rouge is actually my favorite character! She lives a very difficult life and while I feel Anna did an okay job and she didn't write the script Rouge was a bit whiny in the Xmen movies.

  4. She's my favorite--but not that version of her, the original version of her from the comics and old cartoons. That girl has such an attitude and is carefree and buoyant...literally. She's the type of person I'd become best friends with.

  8. I loved Rogue in the movies - she was just the right blend of vulnerable and kick-butt ;) I've always had a soft spot for Raven/Mystique, and JLaw's portrayal of her just increased my feels! :)

  9. I like Rogue, but I'd pick the one in the cartoon series over Anna Paquin. She was more kick-butt and in control there. :)

  10. I really like the X-Men franchise. There are enough people so that you get a lots of different personalities. (Reminds me of NCIS). I think I like Jean Gray the best, even though she's had a very good/evil story line.
