Ready. Set. Write! #6

Welcome to Ready. Set. WRITE! A summer writing intensive with the purpose of writing, revising, planning, and keeping each other accountable.

We will share goals on Mondays. You can sign up at any of the host blogs (Jaime, Alison, Katy, Erin). Don't forget to hop around to encourage other participants!

Last week's goals:
  • Work through several more chapters of edits. Write one new scene. COMPLETE!
  • Prep a chapter submission for critique group next week COMPLETE!
  • Possibly spend an hour or so plotting Camp Nano novel (the plotting is part of my goal)
  • Finish reading the book I started this weekend NO
  • Have fun with high school and college friends I'll see this coming weekend! COMPLETE!
  • Start strong with the exercise and healthy eating challenge I'm doing with my fitness coach friend YES, I'M ON THE FITNESS TRAIN!
Goals for this week:
  • Revise 4-6 more chapters of PROJECT THAT NEEDS ALL MY ATTENTION! It would be lovely if I finished edits this weekend but let's be real here.
  • Read through critique group submissions.
  • Incorporate feedback from critique group (related to revision project)
  • Critique the query and first page I received as a Pitch Wars mentor (prepping for August's Pitch Wars! See Brenda Drake's blog for query workshops and Pitch Wars details).
After my lovely few days off, I am back to work as soon as I can shake off this pesky day job :)

How are you all doing with your goals this week?

    1. I didn't see I'd won a prize! Thanks for letting me know. I'll have to check in on it a little later.

  2. Congrats on winning the prize! And yay for reaching most of your goals. I didn't get any writing done, but I did get some reading in, which wasn't a goal, but was definitely something I needed. ;) Good luck with Pitch Wars and your other goals this week!!

  4. Congratulations on winning last week's prize, and on meeting so many of your goals. That's awesome that you're a Pitch Wars mentor. I won one of the spots, and am waiting to see who critiques my first 250 words. Hopefully I'll be matched with someone who does historical and understands how third-person omniscient works!

  6. Congrats on winning Erin's writer care package!!! So happy for you! And congrats on all the progress this week! I need to stop by Brenda's blog again. I noted the dates for Pitch Wars, but not all the other wonderful things I seem to be missing! Hope you have a wonderful week!

    1. She has a whole schedule up there for upcoming contests. She does a lot for writers, it's pretty great. I entered one of her contests two years ago.

  10. Woo hoo, the fitness train! I need to get back on that, I've been doing a little too much sightseeing the past few weeks :)

Good luck with your goals this week!

  11. Once again, congratulations on winning the writer's care package this week! I really hope it provides some encouragement for all your summer writing endeavors when it arrives. Best of luck with those edits and incorporating the feedback from your critique group. Also, I hope being a Pitch Wars mentor is a great experience for you. My mentor from the Dec/January Pitch Wars (Liz Briggs) still checks up on me and offers me awesome advice. Seriously, entering that contest was one of the best things I've done for my writing yet, and it's so great that people like you are willing to give of your time for it! :)

    1. Good to know! I'm a little nervous because I consider it a big responsibility. I've really enjoyed judging several of the RWA contests and there are a few entries I wish I'd known the writer's identity so we could discuss further, like a critique partnership. So hoping to collaborate that way :)
