Ready. Set. Write! #7

Welcome to Ready. Set. WRITE! A summer writing intensive with the purpose of writing, revising, planning, and keeping each other accountable.

We will share goals on Mondays. You can sign up at any of the host blogs (JaimeAlisonKatyErin). Don't forget to hop around to encourage other participants!

First of all, welcome to my new site design! Thanks goes to Sweetie Baby's Designs for revamping my style. And additional thanks to Leah Simonek Photography for the headshots (another new pic in the About Me page link above).

Last week's goals:
  • Revise 4-6 more chapters of PROJECT THAT NEEDS ALL MY ATTENTION! Yes, about 4 full chapters, but tons of other micro edits that shape this as a stronger story.
  • Read through critique group submissions.Complete
  • Incorporate feedback from critique group Complete (thankful for their comments!)
  • Critique the query and first page I received as a Pitch Wars mentor Complete--check out Brenda Drake's blog this Wednesday for my post
Goals for this week:
  • ALL FOCUS ON THE PROJECT THAT NEEDS ALL MY ATTENTION. These edits need to be done. This is my only writing focus. Re-shape the remaining chapters for consistency with the new edits. Maybe it's a good thing I'm not headed to RWA nationals this week. I'm home writing (and working). My free time will be spent revising.
One phrase that sums up what I wrote/revised:
  • The word "it." No, really. The whole dang manuscript. I've identified a bad writing habit and now know when and when not to use this filler word.
The biggest challenge I faced this week:
  • Which existing scenes work, which do not. How to re-shape them into the best story.
Something I love about my WIP:
  • My character, the "hero," Liam. Everybody loves Liam. My goal right now is to Add More Liam. But still keep Liam awesome.
All right, writers. How did you do on your goals?

  1. Congrats on hitting your goals! Sounds like you had a busy week. I hope this week is as productive. And as a fan of boys named Liam, I am all for more of him without even knowing him. ;)

  2. Congratulations on all the progress on your goals! You sound like you're swamped with work.

    1. Well, it's all work I bring upon myself :) I really wanted to do Camp Nanowrimo this month on a new story, and I even set a low wordcount which would include an outline. But these other edits are priority and there is only so much time in the day.

  3. I love the name Liam. Sounds like you got a ton done last week - congrats! Here's to another great week with serious focus on THE PROJECT THAT NEEDS ALL YOUR ATTENTION! :)

  4. Love the new blog design and your new profile pic is so beautiful! Is that a new hairstyle too? Love it! Anyway, I'm done gushing now. Great job meeting all those goals this week! Good luck focusing on that one project this week. I'm sure you'll tackle it wonderfully. Have a great week, Stephanie! :-)

    1. Thanks! The haircut happened last fall but I didn't have many good pictures with it. My google profile sometimes seemed stuck on an old picture even though I swore I'd changed it.

  5. Yay for weeding out bad writing habits! Mine is to accidentally use the same word multiple times in the same's like it gets stuck in my head. Hope your week is productive! :)

  6. It is one of those hard words and I'm afraid to say I love it too. Bad two letter word.
    I love he name Liam!
    Good luck this week!

  7. It's so satisfying to get out all those filler words and tighten things up. Good luck honing in your focus on the one project, I hope you get all your edits done! :)

  8. Best of luck focusing on those edits. It sounds like you got some good feedback to work with.

  9. Congrats on hitting your goals and good luck with your edits this week! Love your new blog design and photo! Your haircut is fierce. :)

  10. My "bad" word is JUST. Can't seem to quit writing that one! Also, I love the new blog look! Good luck with your goals this week!

  11. The website redesign looks great and your hair looks ah-mazing in that pic :)

Good luck with your edits, I'm cheering you on!

  12. LOVE the image! and gosh your site rocks. And you are just doing great on your goals so huge congrats on that!

  13. Wow, you are doing wonderful with your goals. I love Liam already and I don't even know him but he sounds like I can fall for him :).

Thank you so much for the encouraging words on my blog
