Blogging A to Z: The Walking Dead

Zombies.

Survival.

Braaaaainsssss ...

I passively watched season 1 -- zombies kind of gross me out -- so this was more of my husband's show to watch than mine. But season two of this AMC cable drama sucked me right in. The humanity of this series should not be overlooked. As time moves on, survivors of a world infested with zombies are sure to create their own trouble; battles between leaders, how to care for survivor children and whether to protect them or teach them to protect themselves, trust, and of course hook-ups. Not that this show dwells much on dating relationships, but it's there.

Why You Should Watch: Horror, dystopian, and survivalist worlds come together in this unique show.  It's frequently scary, but the characters and their relationships to each other are explored enough to give it depth. If you're already a fan, or want to know more, here's a cool fansite: talkingwalkingdead with commentary on the show, the comic series and the greater world of zombies.

Factoid: The season two finale, which finished earlier this year, snagged 9 million viewers. That is HUGE for a cable show, and is the highest viewing of a cable show to date.

  1. I LOVE this show! I liked Season 1 better overall but Season 2 has AMAZING moments (which I won't mention because I don't want to ruin anything for anyone.)

Favorite character? Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) without a doubt. :)

  2. Zombies gross me out too but I can't stop watching this show. Even if after every single episode, I have zombie nightmares all night long and for nights after.

And yeah, Darryl Dixon is the best character.

  3. I've only watched this a few times. But as I'm the only one in the fam who can stomach watching zombies, it's been hard to follow every episode (no DVR. *sniff*).

  4. My husband and I watch this show but fell behind on Season 2. He's been away a lot for work, and we're waiting to watch it together. Unfortunately, I stumbled across spoilers I had not intention of seeing. Boo.

  8. @Jay: this is the type of show it's almost better to watch on DVD because you can keep going without interruptions. I might go back and watch season 1 since I didn't see all of the episodes.

  9. I want to watch this - and yet I am terrified too! And I just got into zombies too - love reading Jonathan Maberry's Rot & Ruin YA series. Seems to be more about humanity which I like, plus he's my teacher so I'm lucky to get his books signed.:) Nice to be on the A to Z with you and I may be brave and watch this show!
