We will share goals on Mondays. You can sign up at any of the host blogs (Jaime, Alison, Katy, Erin). Don't forget to hop around to encourage other participants!
Goals from last week:
- Tackle the middle chapters of my WIP, craft new scene COMPLETE!
- Work in feedback from critique group COMPLETE!
- Potentially join a Savvy Authors plotting workshop I passed on this.
- Start reading The Truth About Alice for the Fierce Reads author tour COMPLETE!
Goals for this week:
- I REALLY want to complete my current draft and send to readers by June 30. It's ambitious though. I'm going for it! My minimum will be 5 chapters.
- Write synopsis of WIP. Potentially enter in 2 RWA contests (material ready except synopsis)
One word that sums up revisions for the week:
- Swoon :)
- Working out which scenes to keep, which to cut. My critique group helped with brainstorming and I feel much better about the direction.
- I took headshots with a photographer yesterday! Yayy! Changes to my blog upcoming with a shiny new design and photo. I'm sticking with blogger for the time being since it works for me.
- I just found out I will be a mentor with this year's Pitch Wars! Brenda Drake runs contests for writers (one of which I participated in 2012). More to come on that, and some chatter going on now under #PitchWars on twitter.
Happy writing/reading/revising this week! Let me know how you're doing in the comments.
Ooo, swoon is my favourite! You did awesome with your goals this week! I think it's fantastic that you're aiming to get your story to readers by the end of the month. That's a great goal to shoot for! Good luck writing that synopsis, too. I'm terrible at them lol. I'm very excited to see this new headshot and blog design you mentioned! :D
ReplyDeleteScrivener really helps with synopsis writing because you can create a document along side all your chapters, so visually it's all there in front of you. I write a few lines per chapter, sometimes, more or sometimes less, and a little more at the start and end. And then I trim it down. What's hard is showing voice in there too.
DeleteNice job on your goals this week! And I love that your word is "swoon". For me, that's always a good thing in books! And congrats on being a mentor in Pitch Wars.sounds like a lot of fun. Good luck with your goals this week!
ReplyDeleteSwoon is not so easy for me to write, so I'm working hard at adding romantic tension!
DeleteSwoon has always been my favorite word :) Good luck on your goals!
ReplyDeletePitch Wars really looks to be exciting this year(not that it isn't every year)! Excited to see the new website and photo too. It's like online decorating. ;) Good luck this week!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on being a Pitch Wars mentor! I was a participant last year and it was an awesome experience! Good luck with your goals for this week :)
ReplyDeleteGreat job! Congrats on being a Pitch Wars mentor - I'm hoping to enter if I get my revisions finished by August! Good luck with your goals this week! :)
ReplyDeleteYou had me at SWOON. :) Also, you can do it! And congrats on being a Pitch Wars mentor! I saw your name on the list and I was all WOOHOO!
ReplyDeleteHave a great week!
Thanks! I'm excited. I did some other sort of pitch event (as a participant) with Brenda that did not involve a mentor; the mentor thing sounds really cool.
DeleteI agree with Alison! Any book that involves the word SWOON is a book for me! I'm hoping to finish my revision by the 30th, so I'll be typing my fingers to the bone right along with you. Best of luck, Stephanie!
ReplyDeleteA mentor for Pitch Wars - that's great! What an honor.
ReplyDeleteIt is! I feel like I have so much more to learn, but I have reached a few milestones, so if there is any help I can give to another writer, I want to do that.
DeleteGlad to hear you feel better about the direction of your WIP now. Cutting scenes is such a tough task. And swoony revisions are certainly the best kind! Good luck with this week's goals and with mentoring for Pitch Wars!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on meeting your goals and good luck this week!
ReplyDeleteYay for being a pitch wars mentor! Big honor. I've got my eye on entering this year. Brenda always does a great job.
Awesome words choice!! Love swoony books.
I like the sound of swoon :) Congrats on being picked to mentor!
ReplyDeleteSee, I love editing until I come across a scene or paragraph that I end up deleting! I decided to cut out a character in one WiP which meant I had to delete a lot of scenes, dialogue and any mention of the character. Nightmare! It felt like I was deleting so much!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on becoming a mentor! :)
Congrats on hitting your goals this week, and for being chosen as a Pitch Wars mentor! I was a participant in the very first Pitch Wars and it was a really fun experience.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to seeing your head shots and new blog design! Good luck finishing up your draft.
This is awesome Stephanie! AND Pitch wars? wow...what a week! Hope this one (sorry I am late!) is as great.
