Road Trip Wednesday: Hosted by YA Highway
Writer's Digest is sponsoring a retreat in Greece (check out the details here) -- that would be incredible. Seriously, look at those pictures! But closer to home is fine, too. I would love to rent a house on a beach -- could be nothern California or the Oregon coast -- along with a mix of writers and some industry pros to guide us. I'd like to keep my retreat all women so we can relax a bit without a bunch of guys around :) I prefer some structure, so I would love to have sessions led by the pros with time to work on my own writing in between.
The local RWA chapter I just joined has hosted occassional retreats with the structure I noted above, minus the beach house (it's usually in a hotel). I'm looking forward to my first one! I like the idea of a smaller scale workshop for a different experience than a larger conference.
Now I want to spend the day at the beach. If I can't have the ocean, even Lake Michigan will do!
How about you?
I'll take the "without a bunch of guys around" comment as a compliment--because us guys are so awesome, you'd want to hang out with us all the time and you'd never get any writing done. That's *exactly* what you meant, wasn't it? :D
ReplyDeleteI do like the idea of a retreat where you can hang with writers/industry pros, and also go off to your own little cubbie-hole and write.
That retreat in Greece would be incredible. Have fun at your RWA retreat!
ReplyDeleteLake Michigan is gorgeous. I've always wanted to take my laptop, go out to one of the Great Lakes, and write while I look out over the water.
That retreat in Greece sounds fantastic. I think I might end up just staring at the view and getting nothing done, though. :)
ReplyDeleteA house on the beach would be a really great place to get writing done, while also being relaxing.
I hadn't heard of that retreat - it sounds awesome! And Greece looks stunning.
ReplyDeleteI hadn't heard of that retreat either! And it's not so far from me...hmm. I just wonder what will happen if Greece pulls out of the Eurozone though...
ReplyDeleteI hadn´t heard about that retreat in Greece either. Looks nice! :D
ReplyDeleteI love your idea of getting workshops in to and the mix of activities. Sounds like a great writing retreat!
I am all about the beach house--or Lake Michigan! I used to live near the lake in Chicago and I miss it.
ReplyDeleteGreece - that would be amazing. I mean, the food alone....
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like heaven. I have always wanted to do a writing retreat. Especially at a beach somewhere and Greece sounds perfect :)
ReplyDeleteGlad I found your blog!
Andrea
I'd definitely be on board for that kind of a retreat! I think the beach or mountains, in a house, would be a perfect location!
ReplyDeleteI would just go alone to your standard horror movie cabin on a small, quiet inland lake up north (in the Michigan sense). Without all of the sense violence, of course.
